No Hurry

“Ain’t in no hurry

Be a fool now to worry

About all those things I can’t change”

- Zac Brown Band

After a tourism day yesterday down to Little Big Horn and over to Red Lodge, we got back to business today - sort of. We were out early and done with our ride before 11am. I really wanted to keep going, as the days have been too short for my liking, but between the heat - like everywhere else in the country these days - the winds gusting to 25-30mph, and the lack of options for 40 miles, it seemed borderline irresponsible to push on. We parked it at the local McDonalds for 2 hours until our hotel was available. We’re going to try and make the most of it by heading down to the City Park here in town along the Yellowstone River after it cools down a bit.

We’ve got two days and about 100 miles to Bozeman, one short and one longer but haven’t settled on how we want to do it. We can either go 70-30 or 40-60. Again, it will be weather dependent. I’ll lose my riding companion in Bozeman and then it’s best efforts to get this thing wrapped up before Labor Day weekend. Many days, I count down miles to go. I think starting this weekend, I’ll be counting down days. I’ve got 11 more states, 2 more car rides (to go get Nebraska and to skip from Vegas to Reno), and a bit over 2000 miles. There will be a few hills between here and the finish line.

As Claire pointed out yesterday, the mosquitoes in Deep Ravine mounted a much better attack than Custer did. And it only took them about 60 seconds to send us into full retreat
